574,000 passengers expected during the holidays
Cologne Bonn Airport is expecting busy days – the Easter holidays are on the way. 574,000 passengers are expected between 12 and 28 April. In total, about four percent fewer passengers will take-off and land in Cologne/Bonn during the school holidays than over Easter 2018.
"We are in the starting blocks for the first wave of travellers of the year at Cologne Bonn Airport. All our employees at the airport are looking forward to a busy time, as many families, once again, begin their holidays with us," says Johan Vanneste, CEO of Flughafen Köln/Bonn GmbH.
The first weekend of the holidays (Friday to Sunday) is already expected to be busy. Around 106,000 passengers will be taking off and landing at the airport. The busiest day of the holidays is anticipated on April 26 with a good 39,000 passengers. A final climax is on the cards for the last holiday weekend (Friday to Sunday) with as many as 109,000 passengers travelling via Cologne/Bonn.
This year, classic sunny destinations are once again among the top destinations for Easter holidaymakers. Turkey, Spain and Italy are the leading destination countries. Aside from Berlin, Munich and Hamburg, city and business travellers are largely making their way to London, Vienna and Milan over Easter.
Kötter Aviation Security, which is responsible for passenger and luggage checks, feels equipped and ready. "Together with our partners, the Federal German Police and the airport, we have throuroughly prepared ourselves," says Managing Director Peter R. Lange. "That's why I'm convinced that we'll get passengers off to just as good a start as we did for all the holidays in the past year." At peak times, up to 150 air security assistants will be on duty at the checkpoints.
For a relaxed start to the holidays, passengers should still allow a little more time than usual for arrival, check-in and security checks. Passengers can find out about the current waiting times at the security checkpoints at www.koeln-bonn-airport.de/fluege/abflug-ankunft.html
